Intravenous (IV) Iron Infusion – Total Dose Iron Therapy
The Infusion Room specialises in intravenous (IV) iron infusion therapy for patients living with iron deficiency or iron deficiency anaemia. IV iron treatment delivers iron directly into the bloodstream via an intravenous drip, bypassing the digestive system entirely. This allows iron stores to be replenished in a single treatment session, typically around 1000mg, making it an effective treatment option for many patients who have not responded to oral iron supplementation.
Treatment involves inserting a small cannula into a vein in the arm, similar to a blood test. Iron is administered via an infusion pump to ensure the correct dosage is delivered safely over the appropriate period, while patients are monitored throughout the session.
Patients often report feeling noticeably better within days following treatment. IV iron infusions may be appropriate for patients who cannot tolerate oral iron tablets or where tablets have proven ineffective.
Iron infusions may be indicated for patients experiencing iron deficiency related to:
• Heavy menstrual bleeding
• Pregnancy and childbirth
• Gastrointestinal conditions
• Pre- and post-surgical care
• Chronic illness
