The Infusion Room is a specialised ambulatory infusion service in Claremont, Cape Town, providing prescribed intravenous (IV) treatments in a safe, comfortable and stress-free environment. The practice specialises in intravenous total dose iron therapy, biological therapy and selected infusion-based medical treatments administered under professional medical oversight.
All treatments are authorised and administered by a specialised nurse practitioner under physician oversight and are provided at medical aid rates where applicable. The Infusion Room works closely with referring medical practitioners to ensure seamless referrals, safe medication administration, and cost-effective treatment in a calm, patient-centred setting.
Founded in 2019 by Sr. Pippa Hime and Dr Colin Rush, The Infusion Room was established in response to a recognised need for more accessible, specialised care for patients living with iron deficiency anaemia (IDA). The practice grew out of Pippa’s extensive background in women’s health and perinatal care and was built around a philosophy of compassionate, personalised treatment in a calm and professional environment. Today, The Infusion Room continues to provide private infusion services at medical aid rates while supporting patients through evidence-based treatment pathways designed to improve quality of life.
Sr. Pippa Hime is a registered nurse with midwifery training and a specialisation in women’s health and perinatal care. Her career has been dedicated to supporting women through every stage of life, from maternity and reproductive health through to managing chronic conditions such as iron deficiency anaemia. In 2019, after identifying a significant unmet need for specialised iron deficiency treatment, Pippa co-founded The Infusion Room to provide patients with expert-led, accessible infusion care. She works closely with Dr Colin Rush of Cape Gastro, a specialist gastroenterologist, to ensure patients with complex or gastrointestinal-related iron deficiency receive comprehensive and professional care.
Known for her compassionate and personalised approach, Pippa treats every patient as an individual. As a working mother of two, she brings both clinical expertise and genuine empathy to patients navigating pregnancy, motherhood, chronic illness and the demands of everyday life.
Dr. Colin Rush is our physician gastroenterologist who studied at the University of Cape Town - through Groote Schuur - an internationally renowned academic hospital that has trained some of South Africa’s best doctors. Dr. Rush is passionate about enabling his patients to better understand how to make conscious decisions around their health, affording greater control over their physical well being. He is deeply respectful of the part that gastrointestinal (GIT) health has to play in our quality of life and, as such, is wholly committed to providing the best GIT investigative, procedural and management healthcare services in keeping with internationally recognised standards of quality and practice
